We are taking a break from RV travel and exploring a town just south of Guadalajara Mexico 🇲🇽.
This is our second time visiting Ixtlahuacan de los Membrillos. We have some friends here who have asked us back to house sit and take care of their pets while they travel to south America for 3 weeks.

The name “de los Membrillos” (of the Quince Fruit) honors the area’s history of quince orchards. The town is famous for its membrillo products, including cajeta (sweet paste) and punch.
It sits at an elevation of 1,570 meters (approx. 5,150 feet) and is surrounded by mountains, providing a picturesque backdrop and numerous hiking trails, such as the challenging route to Cerro San Francisco.
The town features narrow cobblestone streets.

a vibrant main plaza with historical murals, and colonial-style architecture.

It maintains traditional social customs, such as the Sunday evening paseo at the plaza and An annual celebration dedicated to the town’s signature fruit, featuring food, music, and cultural events.
The surrounding Sierra de San Juan Cosalá offers extensive trails for hikers and nature enthusiasts.

Its location near the Guadalajara-Chapala highway makes it a convenient “landing spot” for those wanting proximity to the Guadalajara International Airport (15-20 minutes away). Keep in mind the airport is constantly growing and alot of construction in the area can create some confusion and frustration getting in and out of the area.
There’s many shops and restaurants that serve both authentic Mexican food as well as north American favorites for a very reasonable price.
